Affiliate Player Guidelines 2026

Affiliate Players Guidelines:

Storm Softball supports the use of affiliated players; as per the following guidelines and in accordance with RMSL AP rules :

A. Storm Softball encourages team officials to use their AP’s in practice. This aids in the player’s development and familiarizes them with the level of competition needed to AP in games.

B. Team officials are to allow their players to be AP’d unless there is a conflict with their primary team events.

C. Calling up an affiliated player from a lower tier or division to play league games, exhibition games and/or tournaments are not permitted except to replace a missing player.

D. The following process should be utilized by team officials when calling up an AP:

  1. The coach requesting an affiliated player must first notify the coach of the team from which a player is being requested.
  2. Once the coach has approved the request, he/she/they should contact the family of the player being requested to notify them of the request.
  3. The applicable Division Director’s should be notified every time a player is being used as an AP.

E.The use of AP's shall follow all rules and bylaws as set by Softball Saskatchewan - the governing body for Storm Softball.

Pickups

Teams may pick up a maximum of three (3) players to avoid forfeiting a game

For league games, each “pickup” player can play a maximum of three (3) games for any one team

Pick-up players can be from the same division at a lower level or from a lower age division. The pick-up players may be no more than two levels lower than the team

The regular team players must be listed first and play a minimum of three (3) innings before a “pickup” player can be substituted.  An exception would be if a team cannot field nine (9) players from its regular team, pickups can then start the game.

If a team is still short of players 15 minutes after the game start time, the win will be awarded to the team not at fault.   However, if both coaches agree to lend/borrow enough players so that the team short of players can complete a nine player line-up and both teams have at least nine players the game can continue, with an umpire, as an “exhibition” game. Forfeit still applies.

Division A pick up pitchers may only pitch for Division A teams. Division B pick up pitchers may pitch for Division A and Division B teams. (ex: U15A pitcher can pitch U17A but cannot pitch U17B). This includes the Queen City Classic Tournament and the Sharon Knott Memorial Tournament

Exception:  U15B teams can call up a U13A pitcher following all existing RMSL rules.

All U15 pitchers must be utilized first, then the U13A pitcher is allowed to pitch a maximum of 2 innings for the 2026 regular season (does not include playoffs)
